Palm Springs honors vets with 22nd annual Veterans Day Parade

The City of Palm Springs hosted its 22nd annual veterans day parade on Sunday.

Dozens of cars, floats and organizations strolled down Palm Canyon Drive, taking part in the annual parade to honor our armed forces.

“It’s just more and more meaningful every year that goes by,” said Nancy Glenn, who watches every year.

The parade is one of the largest of its kind in Southern California and had support and participation from military units, marching bands and several veterans groups.

“It’s very impressive…it shows a lot of nationalism and I’m very impressed with how many people are here,” said onlooker Gabriel Mittelmann.

Hundreds of locals lined the streets to say thank you to our vets.

“People have given their lives…men, women, armed forces. We’ve got to remember them. We’ve got to be grateful to them,” said Mike Irving.

Palm springs has been officially designated as a regional site for the observance of Veterans Day by the Veterans Day National Committee. The Palm Springs Parade is one of approximately sixty events selected nationwide to receive this honor.

And our local veterans say the outpouring of support and appreciation means so much to them:

“Well it was great. After the Vietnam era you didn’t see a lot of this…so it was good and it brought back different memories of my time in service,” said Terry Manson, a Vietnam War navy combat veteran.

“We wouldn’t miss it. It’s fabulous we’ve been coming for many years. I feel very proud to be here…I get a lot of thank yous and I think it’s fantastic,” said Marshall Arnoldussen, a Vietnam War marine corps combat veteran.
