Local boxing star Rommel Caballero signed by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions
19-year-old local boxing phenom Rommel Caballero will be promoted by one of the sport’s most reputable organizations. Caballero signed a 5-year deal with Golden Boy Promotions on Wednesday.
The Coachella fighter, nicknamed “the Legacy,” is 4-0 (3 KO) in his professional career.

He is the younger brother of Randy “El Matador” Caballero who is also represented by Golden Boy. Randy is the former IBF Bantamweight world champion, but many believe that Rommel is the more talented fighter.
For Rommel, this is a special day and he’s hoping to continue the legacy of his family by becoming a world champion.
“Not everybody gets signed so it’s a dream come true for me. I want to fight the biggest and best names out there and Golden Boy is starting my career right. Wherever they have me next – I’m ready,” said Rommel Caballero.

Caballero is trained by the legendary Lee Espinoza who says he is proud to have another champion-caliber fighter represent the local area.
“It’s such a small town and to have four world champions and two guys fight for the world title – it’s something incredible and no town ever had something like this,” said Lee Espinoza.
Lastly, Rommel’s father and manager Marcos said that his son’s hard work has paid off with this day and he foresees a world championship belt in Rommel’s future.

“I’m proud of him. It’s been a long road but we’ve been working hard and training hard for this day and hopefully we’ll make a champion. I think we’re going for the next one,” said Marcos Caballero.
Rommel’s next fight date is still TBD but he is expected to debut as a Golden Boy Promotions fighter in 2019.
