Officials suggested having an emergency kit in your home and car with enough food, water. and in some cases medication to last three days. They also advised residents to use sandbags to protect property, be aware of weather watches and warnings, and to not drive through water or mudflow.

“We’ve seen people drown trying to cross over road closed signs and crossing over water that they don’t think is very deep. It only takes about 6 inches to float your car,” one representative told News Channel 3.
