DHS set to receive $1.3m in funds for road improvements

Desert Hot Springs will see some big safety improvements in the coming years after CalTrans awarded the city $1.3 million to fix roads and sidewalks.

The money comes from Active Transportation Program funds for road and safety improvements and will be directed toward pedestrian safety improvements on Hacienda Ave.

The project will include more than a mile of new and upgraded ADA sidewalks, curbs and ramps, along with 20,000 feet of bike lanes, dozens of planted trees and 46 new street lights.

Desert Hot Springs scored a 95 on the ATP scoring rubric for grant fund eligibility — meeting requirements like priority to fund a plan, disadvantaged communities, public participation and how the city plans to implement and develop the plan.

The Hacienda Improvement Project is ranked number 8 in the state for all CalTrans projects, showing just how critical these repairs are compared to other statewide projects.

The county of Riverside is set to receive nine percent of all CalTrans ATP funds this year, according to Mayor Scott Matas.
