Checking windshield wipers essential for vehicle storm preperation

The incoming storm means slick roads for drivers out and about this weekend. It can also make it hard see the road clearly, making windshield wipers a needed accessory.

“The tires last much longer than the windshield wipers….Isn’t that something?” Christopher Dumler

It’s a constant reality for him as he’s an owner of a local moving company. Windshield wipers, a consistent expense for his fleet of trucks to deal with the infrequent rain in the desert.

“It’s a pain in the neck, but we do it…you have to do it. Sometimes it doesn’t rain here,” he said.

With rain in the forecast working wipers are essential for any vehicle. According staff at Sergio’s Automotive, they’re seeing valley drivers that are caught off-guard.

“When it’s raining, everybody wants to be helped with the windshield wipers in the last minute when it’s raining,” Sergio Ceballos, owner of Sergio’s Automotive, said.

Ceballos says the heat of the desert and infrequent use of the wiper are the main causes of wear and tear. They suggest this timetable for replacing wipers.

“It’s very important to check the wipers at least every service and take a look or replace every year,” Ceballos said.

Good wipers means a safer drive on the road.

“You can see clearly on the road ahead and you’re not going to have those streaky type windshields that you get with those blades that have been sun-damaged,” Doug Shupe, spokesperson for AAA of Southern California said.

He also encouraged drivers to avoid using cruise control and slowing down on wet roads. A list of tips from AAA can be found here.
