Abandoned Desert Hot Springs house fire contained

A fire at an abandoned residence in Desert Hot Springs was contained in 20 minutes Wednesday morning, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 7:52 a.m. at a structure on the 66000 block of Desert View Avenue in Desert Hot Springs.

Crews were able to contain the blaze, which at one was ‘well involved with fire’,by 8:10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

“We have been fighting to get this house torn down now for 3 years and even met [a] code enforcer…to get it done but nothing was done,” said Robert Jimenez-McWilliams, who runs the neighborhood watch. “Now it burns again.”

Jimenez-McWilliams also said that the residence has been occupied by a squatter during that three year time period.
