Alleged Palm Springs burglar pleads not guilty

A man accused of breaking into three homes in the same Palm Springs neighborhood, taking thousands of dollars in property, pleaded not guilty today to burglary and attempted burglary charges.

Keshon Manning, 23, of Desert Hot Springs, is charged with three break-ins at homes along Cantina Way and Cahuilla Hills Drive last spring.

In the first burglary April 14 on Cantina Way, an estimated $38,000 in property was taken, including a laptop computer that was tracked by its owner, via an app, to Manning’s Desert Hot Springs address, according to an arrest warrant declaration. Surveillance footage from the home showed two men entering the home through an unlocked sliding glass door, then fleeing in a silver, four-door sedan.

Later that night, a burglar alarm was tripped at another Cantina Way home, again with the suspects attempting to enter through a sliding glass door. Surveillance footage from the break-in showed a man wearing a long-sleeved jacket with the word “Rebel” printed on the front, trying to open several sliding glass doors on the property, which tripped the alarm.

In the third break-in April 23 on Cahuilla Hills Drive, just south of Cantina Way, the homeowner caught a man inside the residence, police said. The resident chased the intruder, who had entered through an unlocked sliding glass door, from the residence and watched him flee in a silver sedan.

Police tracked the car to Farrell Drive, near Alejo Road, where it was stopped and two people, including Manning, were arrested.

The homeowner identified Manning as the man who was inside his home, and the “Rebel” jacket was found at Manning’s home after a search warrant was served, according to the declaration. Unspecified “stolen property” from one of the Cantina Way burglaries was also allegedly found inside Manning’s car.

Manning is due back in court Jan. 28 for a felony settlement conference.
