Local businesses, visitors and families celebrate Father’s Day downtown

Many families out were out in downtown Palm Springs Sunday enjoying the good weather and celebrating Father’s Day.

“I’ve been hanging out with my family and my grandpa celebrating Father’s Day,” said Emma Camarillo.

“Having people outside and coming in and doing some shopping and enjoying Palm Springs…it’s been good,” said Sheila Christenson, Owner, Sunglasses of Palm Springs.

Hundreds of people were out and about on the holiday weekend, taking advantage of the sunshine and cooler temperatures.

“We have been pretty much hanging out…we made breakfast as a family and then we decided to come to town,” said Jay Borromei. “We went on the tram too,” added his son, Chris Borromei.

“My dad and I just played a round at Indian Wells celebrating Father’s Day. The weather in the morning wasn’t that hot honestly because we had a really early morning tee time,” said Jacob Directo, visiting Palm Springs.

Some local shops are offering special deals and discounts for those looking for a last minute gift. “Today we’re offering a special for fathers 10% off anything in the store. Sunglasses are such a great gifts for dads especially out here in the desert so we have seen maybe leading up to Father’s Day people coming in and buying sunglasses,” said Sheila Christenson, Owner, Sunglasses of Palm Springs.

Many families visiting from out of town said they were enjoying the diverse activities and places Palm Springs has to offer.

“It’s just been really special because like my brother said, Palm Springs is really special to my dad because it has golf and hiking our parents really love the outdoors. It’s been really great spending time with them here for a weekend getaway,” said Geraldyn Directo.

“After we checked out of our hotel we ate at Tommy Bahama’s because he loves that restaurant and then we got some dole whip,” added Jacob Directo.

Some also shared their favorite qualities about their dads and grandfathers: “Well my grandpa is really nice and likes to share, and my dad is really helpful and he always likes to spend time with me,” said Emma Camarillo.

“He’s very hardworking. He sets his mind to a task and then he’ll do anything in order to achieve that task,” said Jacob Directo.
