A preliminary magnitude 5.4 earthquake has struck Searles Valley, less than 24 hours following that major 6.4 earthquake.

The strong aftershock struck at 4:07 a.m. Friday morning in the Mojave Desert near the city of Ridgecrest, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. More than 150 aftershocks have followed the 6.4 earthquake that hit the area yesterday just after 10:30 a.m.

Many people on Twitter said they felt the early morning aftershock throughout the Los Angeles basin.

Thursday’s major earthquake was felt throughout Southern California, including parts of the Coachella Valley.
