Cathedral City man sends aid after his former Berry Creek firehouse burns down in North Complex Fire
A Cathedral City resident is sending aid to the Berry Creek community after the North Complex West Zone fire ripped through the town just a few miles from Paradise.
The fire has been burning since last month scorching over 84 thousand acres of land with only 88 percent containment.
News Channel’s Dani Romero has more about why the local resident is giving a helping hand.
The Berry Creek community is living their worst nightmare after North Complex West Zone Fire tore through their small town wiping it out. But one Cathedral City resident is hoping to bring some light.
“I used to be a resident of Berry Creek and a volunteer firefighter up there and I just feel like I need to help my friends and neighbors," said Stuart Glover.
Stuart Glover loads up his van with donations to take up north to his fellow neighbors, who have lost everything to a deadly wildfire.
“Hygiene products, shampoo, I have got blankets, jackets some clothing and a little bit of normalcy to the folks that lost everything as well," said Glover.
The small town brought so many memories to Glover including some as a firefighter.
“The only one that still around is the chief and everybody else is retired and moved on to other things that was a good year for us. that was a house fire that we saved it," said Glover.
Glover said he hasn't been back since 2017 but after seeing a photo of his former chief standing in the middle of what used to be the firehouse, things changed.
“I am heartbroken that picture was taken at our former station its gone, I had alot of memories there and had alot of good times," said Glover.
Glover said the department lost their gear and equipment.
“All the supplies they had in there, and the engine and water tender,"said Glover.
Which is why Glover isn’t waiting any longer. He’s leaving Tuesday morning.
“I am planning on setting up in a parking lot at a convenience store at one of the ones that’s open just let people know hey come and get what you need, if I have it you can have it," said Glover.
Glover told News Channel 3 he hopes to plan a second trip.
