Underground Explosion Forces Traffic Closure In Palm Springs
Traffic on northbound Gene Autry Trail has been narrowed to one lane south of Vista Chino due to an explosion on some underground power lines in the area.
Palm Springs Police says a manhole cover was dislodged at around 9:27 this morning into the roadway and traffic is being diverted as Southern California Edison fixes the problem.
About 2,000 customers have power knocked out due to the explosion.
Police are urging motorists to avoid the area.
There’s no immediate estimate on when the power may be restored.
