St. Theresa’s Church Remembers Its Own 9/11 Victim From Palm Springs

PALM SPRINGS – Hundreds of people gathered Friday morning, remembering a Palm Springs woman, killed on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center towers.

Barbara Keating was a volunteer at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Palm Springs. The church held a memorial service to honor her memory.

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet delivered the keynote address. Keating’s friends also shared their thoughts and prayers.

“I say mostly, thank you, for helping and looking after us, which I know she does,” says parishioner Elizabeth Raynes.

Rosemary Beem adds, “I hope that she’s happy. I feel that I know that she’s watching over us also.”

Friends remembered Barbara Keating as loving retirement, convertibles, good restaurants and great martinis.

There is one other victim who is on his way to Palm Springs as well.

Bill Weems was on Flight 175, when it crashed into the World Trade Center. He was on his was from Massachusetts to visit his sister in Palm Desert.

Two firefighters who rushed into the burning towers were College of the Desert graduates.
