Palm Springs Man Charged With Faking Military Service

PALM SPRINGS – A Palm Springs man is expected to surrender to federal authorities tomorrow, charged with unauthorized display of numerous Navy medals.

Steven Burton told authorities he will surrender to the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Riverside Thursday morning, where he could make his first court appearance as early as 9:30am.

Burton was seen and photographed on several occasions, wearing military uniforms and various medals, despite the fact he’s never served in the military. The medals included the Navy Cross, which is the highest awardgiven by the Department of the Navy,and the Purple Heart, which is given to those wounded in action or killed.

Burton faces a federalmisdemeanorcharge, which couldland him in a federal prison for one year.
