One Missing Teen Located; Two Others Missing; Charred Remains Found

HEMET -A Hemet girl who was reported missing along with her boyfriend and another boy was found today, but the fates of the other two teenagers remained uncertain following the discovery of human remains in the backyard of one boy’s house.

“These are fragmented remains, many of which were charred,” said Hemet police Lt. Dean Evans. “I can’t tell you if it’s one person, two people, a male, a female. It would purely be speculation. That’s gonna take some time, some analysis by the forensic anthropologists.”

The remains were found by police who searched the home in the 1400 block of Bluejay Way on Nov. 18. Anthropologists inspected the remains this week and determined they were human, leading to further investigation.

The residence has been rented over at least the last two months by the family of 17-year-old Jose Campos, who was reported missing Nov. 16. His friend, Adrian Rios, 17, was reported missing around the same time, according to Evans.

Authorities said Rios went to the residence to watch a Sunday afternoon football game with Campos.

The latter’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Felicia Sharpe, was also reported missing but was located today with her mother, said Evans.

“So at this point now we’re down to two missing juveniles,” he said. Sharpe told investigators she had been spending time with her mother, who is estranged from her father, who reported her missing, according to police.

The teen was being interviewed this afternoon by Hemet police detectives.

The missing-persons reports prompted investigators to serve a search warrant at the Bluejay Way home on Nov. 18. Investigators were in the backyard of the home today digging in what appeared to be a shallow grave.

Evans described the remains located in the backyard as “very small.” Witnesses told police a large bonfire was lit in the yard on the night Campos and Rios got together.

“There is some evidence of a fire back there,” said Evans. “It does alarm us that these remains were found at the home of the missing juvenile. However, no link has been made at this point.”

No one has been arrested in the case, and authorities indicated the parents of the missing teens were cooperating with the investigation.
