June Election Set To Fill Benoit’s Senate Seat

By News Channel 3newsline3@kesq.com

SACRAMENTO – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared June 8, 2010, as the day voters will cast their ballots to name a new state senator for the Coachella Valley.

John Benoit left the state senate this month to fill a seat on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors left open by the late Roy Wilson.

The primary election will be held eight weeks before the June date, scheduled for April 13.

County officials estimate the special primary could cost $1.3 million. If no one wins a majority, the June election would cost no more, since another statewide election is set for the same day.
