New 38-Acre Community Park Proposed In Indio

INDIO – Indio City leaders along with the Human Services Commission met Thursday night to discuss the City’s new proposed Indio Central Park. The Indio Central Parkwould bebuilt on 53 acres of City-owned property near Jackson and Market Streets.

The Indio Central Park would feature an aquatic center, 20 acre community park, two football fields, three softball fields and a baseball stadium. Right now, the City is in the preliminary stages of the project.

The first phase of the project would be the aquatic center. The City is hoping to pay for the $12 million water park by applying and receiving $10 million worth of receivingte grants. The Indio City council would have to decide how to fund the remainder $2 million to build the water park along with the $13 million for the rest of the park.

New Indio Police and Fire headquarters would anchor the park on each side. Those two projects would be funded separately and would not be connected. They would like your feedback. They will be holding three meetings after the year:

Thursday January 7th 2010 – Indio Senior Center at 10a.m. – Andrew Jackson Elementary School at 6:30p.m.

Friday January 8th 2010 – AME Church at 10a.m.
