No Bail For Accused Murderer Jimmy Hughes

INDIO – News Channel 3 learned Monday that Jimmy Hughes will no longer have the possibility to bail out before his trial begins.

The accused triple murderer needed $100,000 to secure a bail bond using his extensive Christian ministry properties in Honduras. When News Channel 3 asked Deputy District Attorney Mike Murphy last week if family members of the victims were concerned what Hughes may do if he bailed out, Murphy asserted that Hughes would not bail out.

The state attorney general’s office also filed an amended criminal complaint which makes him eligible for the death penalty.

Deputy Attorney General Mike Murphy’s case alleges Hughes was a paid hitman , hired by the Cabazon Band of Indians to get rid of whistleblowers in 1981.

Hughes was arrested in September in Miami.

News Channel 3 went into the Indio jail Monday morning to get Hughes’ side of the story. He told the jail guards he refused to see us.

Hughes’ next court date is in April. The state attorney general’s office is still deciding whether to pursue the death penalty.
