Airport Security Changes After Attempted Attack

PALM SPRINGS – With the intensified security at airports in the U.S. and abroad, officials at Palm Springs International Airport recommend travelers arrive at least an hour and a half before their flight’s departure.

As for security measures being taken here and elsewhere, passengers should expect the unexpected.

“That’s the whole idea, vary from airport to airport. TSA knows their business well. We work closely with them, but by the end of the day Palm Springs International is more convenient than the larger more congested airports,”said Tom Nolan,ExecutiveDirector of the Palm Springs International Airport.

It can be challenging at other airports. Daniel Borsuk flew out of Montreal before he made a connection in Denver to Palm Springs. He almost missed his flight out of Montreal due to a surprise second screening.

“Moresecurity before you get to the gate, get on the plane, where they pat you down, go through all your things. They have you take off your clothes partly. Serious security.”

In light of the terror attempt on a Northwest Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit Christmas Day, some people who flew in from Vancouver wereok with the added security measures while others believe it’s a waste of time.

“Rather that than being blown up in mid-air. I mean I think we have to accept these things,” said Margaret Timoney.

However David Knox didn’t agree. “I’ve said for a yearsecurity is in the aisleseat, the passengers period. That’s where the security is, we proved it on Flight 253. The guy gets up, take him out, that’s how its gonna go down.”

The TSA’s in-flight security measure for U.S. bound foreign flights that kept people in their seats for the final hour of flightswas lifted while the Vancouver passengers were in the air.
