LA QUINTA -A 58-year-old woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy in La Quinta was free on $50,000 bail today, police said.

Christine Camer of La Quinta, a former La Quinta Middle School Assistant Principal, was arrested around noon last Wednesday at her home in the 79000 block of Westward Ho Drive on suspicion of lewd acts with a child under 14 and oral copulation with a person under 16, said Sgt. Anthony Baur of the La Quinta Police Department. When a News Channel 3 news crew knocked onCamer’s door, a man answered and immediately said “We have no comment.”

The Desert Sands Unified School District says Camer has been employed by the District since September 1978. She most recently spent nine years as the La Quinta Middle School’s Assistant Vice-Principal. District officials confirm she was the vice-principal while the 14 year-old was a student at the school.

Police received a report that Camer was possibly having an illegal sexual relationship with the boy in January, Baur said. Investigators were able to corroborate the report following a year-long investigation, according to Baur. A search warrant was served at Camer’s home Wednesday and she was taken into custody. She is out of jail on a $50,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned on February 25th, 2010.
