More Collisions, Fewer Drunk Drivers Over Holiday Weekend
INDIO – The California Highway Patrol tells News Channel 3 there were a few more accidents on the road this New Year’s weekend, but fewer people faced arrest for driving under the influence.
In the Coachella Valley, there were 17 collisions over the holiday weekend, which started at 6:01pm December 31, and ended January 3rd at 11:59pm. The same number of people were arrested for driving under the influence, though it’s not possible to tell if they happened with the collisions.
Last year, there were 14 collisions over a longer stretch of record keeping, and 29 arrests for driving under the influence.
One person was killed, the first since the New Year’s holiday of 2006.
