Palm Springs Council Approves New Animal Shelter

PALM SPRINGS -The Palm Springs City Councilapproved plans for a new animal shelter, last night.

It’s set to be built on the corner of Vella road and Mesquite Avenue.

The council voted unanimously last night in favor of the $7 million facility. The city expects the real cost to be less than that, saying construction bids will likely be lower because of the recession.

The new facility will be about three times as big as the current location with more spaces for dogs and cats to live and exercise.

And it will include a new area for families to interact with pets they’re looking to adopt.

The shelter could be completed as soon as spring 2011.
