Police Look For Motorist Who Ran Off After Pursuit In Indio
INDIO -A motorist led a California Highway Patrol officer on a pursuit from Interstate 10 in Palm Desert to Indio surface streets today before he escaped on foot.
The officer tried to stop the male driver for a traffic violation around 9 a.m. on eastbound I-10 near Cook Street in Palm Desert, but the motorist sped away, said CHP Officer Ramon Perez. The blue Dodge Durango he was driving reached speeds of up to 100 mph before the motorist exited I-10 at Monroe Street in Indio, Perez said.
A local school was put on lockdown as the investigation progressed.
The driver ditched the vehicle on Lido Street, east of Clinton Street.
Officers searched the area for the suspect — described as Latino, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds — without success.
The suspect was dressed in a white long-sleeved shirt, khaki shorts, long white socks and white tennis shoes and wore a black baseball cap. Anyone with information about his whereabouts was asked to call the CHP at (760) 772-8911.
