Valley Business Peaks Over Holiday Weekend

PALM DESERT – The valley is coming off a big weekend that was a boon for business. There was plenty going on in both ends of the valley.

The Riverside County Fair in Indio helped bring people to town. On the west side, nearly 10 thousand cyclists converged on Downtown Palm Springs for the annual Tour de Palm Springs.

On top of that,Modernism Week got underway.

Al Lanewala, the Manager of Desert Soles shoe store says, addit all up and people visiting Palm Springs were spending money.

“I’ve worked in retail for 25 years in the valley. This is probably the busiest weekend I can remember. Its just been amazing.”

Joy Meredith, the President of the Downtown Merchant Association added so much going on at once is just what the doctor ordered for merchants in Palm Springs.

“There was a lot of compression with these events. Not one hotel room was available. Ijust think all in all it created a real vibrancy and a vibe in downtown that was just loads of fun.”

Lanewala addedhis sales over the weekend are up at least 25 to 30 percent from a year ago.
