Local Family Shares Story Of Their Nightmare Aboard Carnival Cruise Ship

The Farias family says it was their worst nightmare.

On April 21st, 2010, the cruise liner they were on, the “Ecstasy,” owned by Carnival Cruise Line made a sharp turn to miss two buoys.

The Kristy Farias says because of that sharp turn as they were returning to Galveston, “you heard dishes falling, plates falling off tables, everything started to tip, quicker and quicker.”

It’s been reported the big ship listed 12 degrees when it made the turn in the Gulf of Mexico. For two minutes the family say the boat dipped farther into the water.

Farias says, “the fourth floor was covered with water if the windows were open, it would have filled with water.”

The captain of the Carnival Cruise Liner, Andrea Viacava, passed out a letter explaining what had happened.

Viacava stated, “Immediate steps were taken to stabilize the ship but we are sorry to report that some guest did sustain injuries and required the care of our medical center staff.

Thankfully, none of the injuries are life-threatening, however, three guest will be sent to a hospital tomorrow upon arrival in Galveston for further evaluation.

The Farias family asked Carnival Cruise Line for a refund, the family says they were denied.
