4.5 Earthquake Hits California Border; More Hit Overnight
The US Geological Survey downgraded what was a 5.1 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday evening to a 4.5, but it still was felt across Southern California and northern Mexico.
The earthquake hit at 5:38pm in the same area as the 7.1 magnitude quake that rocked the area on Easter Sunday. Tuesday’s was preceded by a 3.0 magnitude just 10 minutes before.
According to the USGS website, the quake was felt throughout the Coachella Valley, including Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, and other cities.
Most of the responses to the USGS are coming from San Diego where the quake was perhaps felt the most.
A 3.5-magnitude earthquake rattled North County early today, just minutes after a 3.8-magnitude quake shook the far reaches of East County.
The North County quake struck at 12:21 a.m. about 13 miles east southeast of Julian, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey. It was followed at 12:23 a.m. by the quake about 13 miles southeast of Ocotillo.
At 7:39 a.m., a third quake struck the region. The 4.1-magnitude earthquake struck about 13 miles south southwest of Seeley and 17 miles southwest of El Centro, according to the USGS.
