Hi-Desert Medical Center Fined For Failing To Follow Surgical Procedures

Hi-Desert Medical Center has been cited by the California Department of Public Health for failing to follow appropriate surgical procedures when a 4-year-old girl had her tonsils removed.

The report says the 4-year-old underwent anesthesia, and urinated on the surgical table. The nurse placed a towel under her, to shield her from the wetness.

According to the report, the wet spot combined with an electrical current used by a piece of medical machinery, causing a deep burn in her lower back.

Hospital workers responded to the report, saying they have taken corrective measures to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

The 4-year-old is fine, today.
