October is Turning Up the Heat Mid Week

It's a toasty October week here in the Coachella Valley!

A building ridge of high pressure keeps things hot through much of the week, with highs climbing from the low 100s today and Tuesday to around 106 degrees by Wednesday and Thursday—that's a little over 12 degrees above average. Warm overnight temperatures in the 70s to near 80 degrees won't offer much relief keeping moderate HeatRisk around for the valley.

An Extreme Heat Warning continues to remain in effect for our Inland Empire and Coastal neighbors, west of the mountains until 8pm Thursday. There's also now an Extreme Heat Watch to our South for Western Imperial County through Thursday evening as well.

Light Santa Ana winds and elevated fire weather concerns will ease up today, though occasional breezes are still possible.

A trough of low pressure will begin weakening the heat late Friday and Saturday, followed by a dramatically different--noticeably cooler--pattern early next week. Temperatures should return closer to seasonal levels by Sunday, with highs potentially dropping below normal into the low 90s, possibly upper 80s by early next week.
