Palm Springs City Council Members Extend Cut On Own Salaries

The Palm Springs City Council members voted unanimously tonight to extend a 10 percent cut to their salaries for another year.

The City Council members initially voted for a one-year pay cut last May year, according to Amy Blaisdell, the city’s director of communications.

The City Council pay cuts are not expected to have a major impact on the city’s $7.7 million budget deficit.

The City Council also voted 5-0 to place delinquent waste disposal charges on the Riverside County property tax roll for collection.

According to the Palm Springs Disposal Services, about 960 customers owe the city around $287,000.

If the city is unable to collect the money, it might have to raise fees for other customers, a city official said.

Because the city receives fees from the disposal services, the collection from the accounts is expected to provide $278,000 in revenue to the city.

Palm Springs Disposal Services has agreed to pay the city 10 percent of the total amount collected.
