New Details On Undercover Investigation Into Sexual Predator

This bus stop off Deep Canyon and Highway 111 is where violent sexual predator Steven Willet allegedly made inappropriate contact with an undercover deputy. It’s the same stop Susan Davis uses.

“Wow and I live across the street so that’s kinda spooky,” said David.

Willet isn’t allowed to contact women, said a spokesman with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

He allegedly followed the woman deputy on the bus and made inappropriate contact with her. He also tried to get her to go back to his home.

The sheriff’s department took him into custody Tuesday. They transported him to the Indio jail before transporting him back to the state mental hospital.

The courts placed Willet in Desert Center less than a year ago under the supervision of Liberty Healthcare Corporation. A driver would take him from his trailer to a bus stop in Indio, where he would ride to his therapy sessions in Palm Desert.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department organized the undercover compliance check once they learned he was riding the bus through the city. Liberty Healthcare say they were also watching Willet closely using his GPS-s braclet and other means. But it’s unclear if the group would have caught Willett making inappropriate contact with other women but the sheriff’s department did.

“I’ll be more cautious now riding the bus and looking at people and thinking twice about them,” said Davis.

The General Manager of Sunline Transportation, Michael Oglsby, says no one from the sheriff’s department or Liberty Healthcare contacted him. Passengers say it makes them want to keep a closer watch on the people they ride with.

“Just checking out if somebody who looks a little weird or who’s just not acting as they normally would,” said Glendy Henriquez, who takes the bus to College of the Desert.

“I usually sit close to the bus driver or close to the doors. I don’t sit in the back of the bus,” said Davis.

The sheriff’s department say they had no other reports of inappropriate contact with Willet, but if you’ve had any contact with him, call police.
