Two Teens Arrested, Linked To Palm Desert Shooting
Two teens were behind bars today in connection with a gang-related shooting at a home in Palm Desert, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The 16- and 17-year-olds were arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm, said Sgt. Adam Elders of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the 77-000 block of Indiana Avenue.
No one was injured, but deputies found several spent shell casings in the street. Witnesses reported they heard several shots and a vehicle leaving the area, according to Elders.
Detectives believe the 17-year-old was present at the time of the shooting. They searched his residence in the 48-000 block of Agua Caliente in Coachella and found a 12-gauge shotgun, Elders said.
Detectives said their investigation also indicated the 16-year-old also took part in the shooting.
Investigators served a search warrant at the teen’s home in the 82-000 block of Mount Riley in Indio and found ammunition, he said.
Investigators from the Palm Desert Investigations Bureau and the Coachella Valley Gang Task Force determined the shooting was gang-related.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the Palm Desert Police Department at (760) 836-1600.
