Palm Springs Power Outage May Stretch To Midnight For Some

A “massive area” of Palm Springs lost power this morning, according to Southern California Edison. The outage affected 1,300 customers.

By 9:55am, power had been restored to 1,123 customers, according to the power company, leaving nearly 200 more waiting. They may have to wait until 12:30am (past midnight).

The outage affects the area of Palm Springs north of Sunny Dunes, South of Via Estrella, East of La Reina, and west of Camino Real.

Edison officials tell News Channel 3 repair crews are on the scene repairing the problem now, and hope to have power restored by noon, but power may not be restored until 3pm.

Callers to our newsroom report hearing an explosion in the area of Mesquite and Sunrise, and crews are heading to the electrical vault located at Sunrise and Ocotillo.

Afternoon temperatures, today, reached the high 90s.
