West Nile Reports In Riverside County Make First In State

Mosquitoes infected with West Nile Virus turned up along the Riverside County line, last month, just south of Chino, and just last week along the North Shore area of the Salton Sea.

West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control in Ontario says the discoveries make Riverside County the first area in the state to report West Nile, this year.

If an infected mosquito bites you, you could become very ill. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the young and elderly are most at risk for getting seriously ill.

To protect yourself from exposure, the CDC recommends

* Use Mosquito Repellent * Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes can lay eggs * Install or Repair Window and Door Screens * Support Community-Based Mosquito Control Programs
