Whitewater Attempted Murder Suspect Caught After High-Speed Chase

Redlands Police confirm they caught 34-year-old William Jones after leading them on an hour-long high speed chase. It started in Redlands after an officer saw Jones run a stop sign and had no license plates on his car.

Officials say that Jones was involved in an assault and kidnapping that occurred on May 31st in Whitewater. Family members say Jones beat his estranged wife, Marianna Jones, and then tried to run her over with his pick up truck. Then they say he didn’t drive her to the nearest hospital, instead he took her to one in Victorville which was close to 2 hours way and 90 miles from the incident.

Mariann’s sister, Brenda Thompson says, “”He gave the nurses her ID and said there’s a lady inside the truck that needs your help. They brought her in and they asked him if there was any more paperwork. He said, ‘Yes,’ went outside and left. I think he was hoping we wouldn’t find her in Victorville.”

Jones also goes by the names Shawn Dortch and Rodger Brewster. The family of the victim says she is fighting for her life in a hospital in Victor Valley, CA. Her spleen and pancreas were both injured.
