Car Crashes Into Palm Desert Optometry Office

It was an unusual start to the day at Bristol Farms Shopping Plaza in Palm Desert.

Monday morning an elderly woman rammed her Mercedes Benz into one of the businesses located in the center.

A 78 year old woman took the Mercedes through the front window of Desert Eyeworks Optometry. It happened about 15 minutes before the office was scheduled to open at 9 am.

Medical Assistant Laura Trevino was alone in the office standing behind the counter when suddenly the car was bearing down on her. “I heard this noise, it was so loud. All of a sudden everything was so fast and I saw the car right here. All I did is you know throw my chair back and then just start moving back.” Said Trevino. “It was incredible I don’t know, I thought I was like in a movie or something.”

Fortunately, neither Trevino or the driver were hurt. Police say the driver lost control when she caught her shoe on the accelerator. Damage is estimated at close to $60,000.
