Broken Generator Forces Pilot To Abruptly Stop Take-Off At Palm Springs Airport

The pilot of an American Airlines flight made an abrupt stop during take-off, this morning, at Palm Springs International Airport.

Palm Springs Airport Executive Director Tim Nolan says at around 7am, the pilot was taking off, and the pilot decided to abort at the last minute. The plane returned to the gate, where all of the passengers deplaned.

American Airlines spokespeople tell News Channel 3 the crew got a warning of a problem with one of the generators onboard, prompting the pilot to stop take-off.

“While such a stop feels abrupt to passengers, crews are trained and the aircraft is fully capable of stopping from speeds below normal take-off speeds,” they said. “They taxied back to the gate and the aircraft was taken out of service. Parts to replace the generator were being delivered from the airport in Los Angeles.”

No one was injured.

The flight was bound for Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. All of the passengers have been re-routed onto other flights.
