Riverside County Board Of Supervisors Look Into Late Election Returns

In the wake of late election returns from last Tuesdays California primary election, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors has ordered a review of the Registrar of Voters Office.

After receiving numerous complaints from voters as well as a letter from state and federal legislators requesting an inquiry, the supervisors asked County Executive Officer Bill Luna to lead the investigation.

Riverside County was the last in the county to report final election night results. The mail-in vote tally wasn’t completed until five days after the election.

Also, voters were not told until the day after the election that more than 100,000 ballots still needed to be counted. Barbara Dunmore, the County Registrar of Voters admits her office dropped the ball.

“The public, we need to reach out to them more put out some information so they understand what it is and also report to them in a more timely manner on how many outstanding ballots there are,” said Dunmore.

It was also revealed during the supervisors meeting that 12,500 mail-in ballots won’t be counted at all. They sat at the Redlands Post Office, and weren’t delivered before the polls closed at 8 pm.
