Power Restored To Nearly 3,000 Palm Springs Residents
A truck clipped a wire holding up a power pole today, causing nearly 3,000 Southern California Edison customers in Palm Springs to lose power for more than an hour.
The outage began at 4:25 a.m. in the area of Indian Canyon Drive at Garnet Avenue, said Edison spokesman Steve Conroy. The truck struck the wire, causing it to flip up into the electrical lines, he said.
Service was restored by 5:47 a.m.
On Thursday, an outage in Palm Desert left more than 1,000 customers without electricity less than a half-hour before the Lakers won their 16th NBA title with a 83-79 win over the Boston Celtics.
Power was restored by around 11 p.m, Conroy said.
Peter F. Thompson wrote a letter to The Desert Sun complaining about the outage, which began about 8:30 p.m.
“I had to call my daughter who lives in Arizona to give me a play-by- play account of those final minutes,” Thompson told the newspaper. “Thank you, Edison.”
Conroy apologized to SCE customers.
“Obviously yesterday with the Lakers game … was not a good time to have an outage,” he said. “We do everything we can when an outage occurs to get the lights on as soon as we can.”
