Nephew Confesses To Killing Uncle In Palm Springs

A parolee confessed to killing his uncle during an argument in Palm Springs, but said the shooting was accidental, according to court documents obtained today.

Brian Ogle, 24, faces a first-degree murder charge in the May 11 death of 47-year-old William “Brad” Ogle, who was shot at his home in the 2200 block of Carillo Road.

The defendant will be arraigned as soon as he is transferred to Riverside County from the state prison in Chino, where he was being held for a parole violation.

Ogle told Palm Springs police Detective Arnold Galvan while in custody at the state prison that he was involved in a physical confrontation with his uncle when “a gun `inadvertently’ went off,” according to a declaration in support of an arrest warrant.

Witnesses said a man fitting Brian Ogle’s description arrived at the home in a blue vehicle and confronted the resident. He then went back to his car and began to drive away, but stopped abruptly and fired one gunshot as William Ogle was walking back toward the home, Galvan wrote.

The witnesses were unable to identify Brian Ogle in a photo lineup, but video surveillance from a nearby home showed the parolee driving away in a blue vehicle, according to Galvan.

Further investigation also showed that following the shooting, Ogle called several friends on his cell phone and admitted that he got into a fight with his uncle and shot him, according to the document.

Cell phone tracking also placed Ogle near the home at the time of the shooting, Galvan wrote.

Ogle has a history of drug- and theft-related charges in eastern Riverside County dating back to 2004.
