Armed Parolee Escapes Police Near Desert Hot Springs

A parolee who police say is armed and dangerous eluded police last night after a three hour man hunt in the open desert near Desert Hot Springs.

It started around 7:30 Thursday night when a car was pulled over for speeding on Varner Road east of Palm Drive.

One of the passengers jumped out and ran away.

Police searched the area just south of power line road using a K-9 unit and a helicopter in the air.

The search was called off about 3 hours later, and the man is still on the loose.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for a code violation and allowed to leave the scene.
