Crews Battle Fire In Cathedral City

Cathedral City firefighters were able to put out a fire that broke out at an abandoned home just inside the city limits.

Firefighters were dispatched at 4:20 p.m. on Monday to San Diego Drive in the Dream Homes area, which is near Agua Caliente Elementary School and the Palm Springs International Airport.

They were able to put out the fire within 30 minutes, but not before it made significant damage to the home. The homeowner next-door to what is reportedly a bank-owned home told News Channel 3 he was relieved the fire didn’t spread to his home.

Investigators will be on the scene today to determine the exact cause of the fire, but firefighters on the scene said homeless people who may have taken shelter inside could have started it.
