Off-Road Drivers Getting Ready For First Race Since Deadly Crash
Local race teams are gearing up for Saturday’s race in Lucerne Valley. It will be the first race in the high desert since the deadly California 200 crash in August that killed eight people.
The guys at Indio Dune Buggy Center have been prepping their clients’ cars as well as their own. Their race team, 11 Brothers Motorsports will be well represented in the race.
The Bureau of Land Management has instituted new rules and regulations for the race.
“We know it’s tough to be 100ft. back but for the safety of the spectators and of the drivers we need them to do it so everyone has a fun and safe time”, said Dean Stokes who races for 11 Brothers Motorsports.
Saturday’s race is organized by a different promoter than the California 200. Mojave Off-Road Racing had a long list of race rules on its website in preparation for Saturday’s race. “It could be a good thing but they are going to make it not fun anymore”, said Richard Sletten with Indio Dune Buggy Center and 11 Brothers Motorsports. He went on to say, “They are going to make it so no one wants to race anymore.”
