Indio Officer Assaulted By Burglary Suspect

A 25-year-old man caught trying to break into an Indio home fought with an officer today, police said.

Christopher Anthony Sierra was chased down and arrested in the 44100 block of Calle Luna, according to Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron.

Someone in the 80800 block of Boulder Street called 911 just after 6 a.m. and reported a man trying to get into the home through an unlocked sliding door, Guitron said.

“The guy spooked and took off,” he said.

Responding officers checked the area, but as they were leaving, an officer spotted Sierra, who matched the suspect description, according to Guitron.

Sierra ran off and the officers gave chase until they caught up with him on Calle Luna, where the suspect resisted arrest and “assaulted one of the officers,” he said.

“The officer is fine,” Guitron said, adding that more information would be made available this afternoon.
