Banning City Officials Delay Swearing-In Due To Recounts

Due to a request for a recount in the Banning City Council election, the city has rescheduled the swearing-in and reorganization of the council.

Both events have been pushed back from Dec. 7 to Dec. 14.

At that time, the council’s newest members will be sworn in and the council will appoint a mayor.

Seven candidates vied for two seats on the council in the Nov. 2 election. According to the election results certified by the county, the top two vote-getters were Councilwoman Debbie Franklin and Mayor Bob Botts, who received 121 more votes than challenger Edward Miller.

Another challenger, Lyndon Taylor, trailed Miller by 200 votes.

Taylor requested a recount, scheduled to get under way on Monday, Dec. 6.
