State Of Emergency Declared In San Diego Over Stockpile Of Explosives

California Gov. Arnold Scharzenegger has declared a state of emergency in San Diego County because of the discovery of a massive stockpile of highly explosive materials in an Escondido-area home.

Under the declaration issued Wednesday, the California Emergency Management Agency will coordinate the efforts of all state agencies and provide assistance to local governments. Certain regulations are also waived.

The declaration comes a day after San Diego County authorities announced they would burn down the home next week because it is the only way to eliminate the danger from the explosive material found inside.

A 54-year-old resident of the home, George Jakubec, has pleaded not guilty to 26 counts of manufacturing or possessing explosives and two bank robbery counts.
