Laptop Computers Stolen From Local Elementary School

Palm Springs Unified School officials and police are investigating how thieves got away with thousands of dollars in electronics from Cahuilla Elementary School.

The break-in occurred Saturday morning around 4 a.m.

The suspects broke a window to get inside a 5th grade classroom.

Once inside they took 30 Apple lap top computers which they placed inside two recycle bins. They then escaped through a chain link fence that they apparently had already cut open in order to get on the school grounds in the first place.

“It’s really disheartening. I understand times are really tough for everybody, but to take from kids is just really a sad thing,” said Denise Ellis, the Principal at Cahuilla Elementary. “I hope that someone comes forward with some information and most of the things kids just want is their work back that they’ve been saving on there and all their documents that they’ve been working so hard on.”

The laptops are valued at about $1,600 a piece.

They are insured, but could take anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks to replace.
