Songwriter Diane Warren, whose works have been featured in more than 100 films, will receive the Frederick Loewe Music Award at next month’s Palm Springs International Film Festival, it was announced Monday.
Warren will be honored at a Jan. 8 gala, along with fellow PSIFF award recipients Javier Bardem, Robert Duvall, Colin Firth, Jennifer Lawrence, Carey Mulligan, Natalie Portman and David O. Russell.
The film festival runs Jan. 6-17.
“One name always comes to mind when thinking of legendary songwriters for the cinema, and that is Diane Warren,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner. “Over 100 films have featured Diane’s works, including Cher’s recent blockbuster performance of `You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me’ in `Burlesque.”‘
Past PSIFF recipients of the Frederick Loewe Music Award include T-Bone Burnett, Alexandre Desplat, James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman, Howard Shore and Randy Newman.
Warren’s song “Because You Loved Me,” performed by Celine Dion in “Up Close and Personal,” earned the songwriter a Grammy, as well as Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. All told, Warren’s songs have been nominated for nine Grammys, six Oscars and four Golden Globes.
