Forecasters Say Storms To Develop In Coachella Valley

A flash flood watch remained in effect today for an already saturated Coachella Valley, where the potential for serious flooding was expected to continue through Wednesday afternoon.

“The heaviest precipitation will shift south into San Diego County but widespread rain will continue further north as well,” the National Weather Service advised for today.

Today’s Weather Service forecast called for rainfall rates near or greater than one inch per hour are possible at times, especially in the mountains.

According to the agency, the Riverside County mountains could get heavy snow down to 7,000 feet tonight and into Wednesday, as a cold front comes in.

“Models also indicate that strong thunderstorms and waterspouts could accompany the cold front on Wednesday,” the NWS advised. “An isolated thunderstorm could even occur over land.”

Strong south winds were also expected late today into Wednesday.
