Weekend Storms Damage Some Palm Springs Businesses

All roads that were closed in the Coachella Valley were open on Sunday morning after two days of torrential rain.

Some businesses along Palm Canyon Drive were drying out after the storms.

The rain that pelted Palm SpPings was enough to cause some major damage at the Desert Fashion Plaza.

“This wasn’t even a hard rain,” said store owner Clinton Greene. “The last was so much worse on us. Pretty soon we’re reaching a point where we don’t know where to put anything that’s safe.”

It was a big mess at Desert Soles Footwear, where part of the roof collapsed, a hallway flooded, and there’s still water dripping.

Greene said he’s also worried about the vacant spot next door.

“The ceiling is doing the same thing in there, and now my big concern is there’s collapsed tiles in the front windows. If mine collapse in the front windows, we’re essentially out of business,” he said. “Four years and everything we have is in the store.”

Greene says his merchandise is insured, but he’s upset.. He claims there are problems every time a storm hits, and after spending a lot of money on his store, his says property managers need to do some spending to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.

“I understand my landlord has said, ‘every time there’s a leak we come and fix it.’ Well, every time it rains there’s a leak, so just fix the roof.”
