Two Arrested in Rancho Mirage D.U.I. Checkpoint

Police in Rancho Mirage arrested two motorists Saturday night for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Another 7 drivers were arrested for driving while unlicensed or with no license at all. Police impounded 8 vehicles in the checkpoint operation that started at 8:00 p.m., and shut down early before midnight because of rain.

The Riverside County Sheriffs Department says a total of 570 vehicles rolled through the checkpoint on Monterey Avenue, just north of Country Club Drive. 325 drivers were screened. Officers gave 12 motorists screenings for possible intoxication.

The Department says the effort was in response to collisions involving unlicensed, suspended and intoxicated drivers.
