Storm Cancels Some Weekend Events, Others Continue
Several weekend events were getting underway Saturday despite a forecast that called for rain and cold temperatures much of the day.
The 23rd Annual Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational charity golf event got underway Saturday morning with players taking to the fairways at Eagle Falls Golf Course in Indio. The tournament had been threatened by the rain. A tenth of an inch of rain was reported at Palm Springs as of 9am Saturday.
The annual McCormick car auction was set to showcase classic cars for sale in Palm Springs. Gates were set to open both Saturday and Sunday at 8am. 500 cars were set to cross the auction block starting at 10am. The Spa Resort Casino was set to host the event in downtown Palm Springs.
The Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival gates were set to open at 10am in Indio, despite the cold and rain. The fair’s carnival was set to remain open until midnight Saturday.
A “Rock the House” event at Palm Desert Charter School was set to go ahead Saturday at the school at 74200 Rutledge Way in Palm Desert. It features dance, theater and musical performances to benefit the school’s band.
The World Cup Modern Pentathalon also was underway Saturday in Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage.
The La Quinta Youth Festival was postponed to a later date because of the storm.
The Living Desert’s “Brew at the Zoo” event was also delayed until April 15th.
